It’s exactly one month until Clear Books Community Exhibition and over the next few weeks we’ll be giving you a taster of the exciting speakers you can look forward to hearing at the event.
First up, meet chartered accountant and ICAEW Head of Enterprise Clive Lewis who’ll be advising on how you can grow your business in 2015:
Tell us a bit about yourself
I am Head of Enterprise at ICAEW. I’m a chartered accountant and a chartered management accountant.
After qualifying I spent 20 years in business finance roles including four years as finance director of a small electronics plc. I write articles for the media and give presentations on SME issues.
Outside work I have interests in football and rugby and enjoy Scandi dramas on the television.
What will you be speaking about at the Clear Books Community Exhibition?
The presentation will focus on:
- the opportunities for growth in smaller businesses
- overcoming the barriers to growth
- understanding the finance options available for businesses at differing stages of growth
- how to ensure successful applications for finance providers
What are you most looking forward to on the day?
Discussing the challenges and opportunities small business are experiencing and getting feedback on the prospects for the UK economy in 2015.
What’s your favourite piece of business advice?
Planning and detailed research is the key to business success.
Why should small business owners book their ticket to CBCE now?
A recent ICAEW survey of SMEs revealed that four in ten smaller businesses wanted to grow their business. Barriers to growth were cited as current economic climate (46%) and late payment and cashflow (30%). Access to finance was highlighted as a barrier by 11%.
The CBCE event will help businesses overcome the barriers to growth by listening to specialist presentations and to network with other business owners facing similar challenges.
What’s your favourite thing about Clear Books?
I’m not a Clear Books user but feedback from businesses that do use it say it is easy to use and they like the flexible pricing structure.
